Success at Coleraine International Choral Festival 2008 - Mar 2008
Codetta came second in the Grand Prix of the Sligo International Choral Festival.
Three days of singing comprising four separate competitions culminated with Codetta coming second to Polish Choir, Musica Viva, in the premier Grand Prix event. Eight top-class choirs from all over Europe competed for 4 places in Saturday's Grand Prix chamber music final.
In addition the eight choirs went head to head in competitions in sacred music, madrigals and folk music. Codetta also achieved second place in a fiercely competitive Sacred Music competition on Saturday morning.
Competition-wise, attention now turns to Cork in May 2009 and the prestigious Fleischmann International Trophy Competition.
An intense weekend in April in Slovenia saw Codetta reach the Grand Prix Finale at the prestigious Maribor 9th International Choral Competition 2008 as one of the best 5 out of 12 choirs.
Following a non-competitive folk song concert on Friday evening, the competition began in earnest on Saturday. Twelve choirs of the highest standard from all over Europe competed on Saturday for five places in the Grand Prix finale to be held on

Sunday. Saturday comprised two separate sections – a compulsory and free programme. The top 5 choirs from Saturday were then selected to take part in Sunday’s Grand Prix Final. Codetta finished 5th behind three choirs from Slovenia and the stunning winning choir, Oreya from Ukraine.
Codetta won first prize in the Mixed Voice choir category of Coleraine International Choral Festival 2008 on Saturday 8th March. In addition we were also awarded the overall prize for best performance of the festival.
The Coleraine International Choral Festival was held for the first time in 1998 and continues to flourish with an increasing number of choirs competing annually, travelling from as far away as Puerto Rico, Russia, Finland and the Ukraine.
