Codetta

Under the guidance of Codetta is an internationally acclaimed chamber choir based in Derry, N. Ireland. Its member are all originally from Derry but now live, work and study in towns and cities throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe. The wide-ranging repertoire that the choir performs is prepared at intensive weekend rehearsals held monthly throughout the year. Codetta has given many concerts both locally and nationally, participated in the Advent Festival in Prague, successfully competed in a range of international choral festivals, and broadcast regularly on BBC Radio and Television.

Codetta is part of the City of Derry Civic Choir group, which provides opportunities for singers aged 8 and older to participate in choral singing of the highest standard. The five choirs – Primary Girls, Junior Girls, Boys, Youth Choir and Codetta – comprise approximately 200 choristers and are supported by Derry City Council, the Western Education & Library Board and many local businesses, including principal sponsor, the Garvan O’Doherty Group. Codetta was formed in 2002 with an enthusiastic group of past Youth Choir members who wanted the opportunity to continue to sing together. It performs a wide range of repertoire including choral standards, spirituals, jazz and pop arrangements, as well as major choral works.

Future plans for Codetta include recording of a CD in collaboration with Gerard McChrystal (saxophone) and the organisation of a Choralfest in the city.
